We are proud to announce that Holland Shipyards Group’s vessel “Gorinchem XII” has won the Ship of the Year Award at the Maritime Awards Gala 2024!
The award highlights this vessel’s blend of design, innovative technology, and sustainability. Built with forward-thinking solutions, including a fully electric propulsion system, enabling the vessel to operate with zero emissions and meet the highest environmental standards.
The design presented significant technical challenges, from optimizing battery capacity to configuring the electric drive system for maximum efficiency and reliability. Every element has been carefully engineered to ensure optimal performance, safety, and economic value. By choosing aluminum over traditional materials, the weight of the ferry was reduced to 56 tons, compared to the 200+ tons of its steel counterparts. This not only allows for high speeds with reduced power but also aligns with our joint commitment to reducing our environmental footprint.
Furthermore, the decision to forego painting the ferry saved an additional two tons and reduced the maintenance needs, enhancing the project's eco-friendliness. These steps forward have established a new standard within the industry, demonstrating that sustainable solutions can be both effective and innovative
This award would not have been possible without the trust and collaboration of Riveer, our dedicated partners, and, of course, our Holland Shipyards Group team. We would like to express our thanks to everyone involved. Together, let’s continue pushing the boundaries of sustainable shipbuilding.
